The great Archie Griffin comes in strong at #4 on this list. I had a very hard time placing the top four when it comes to best ever. Nevertheless, Archie was a running back for Ohio State University. He may have been one of the most electrifying players ever to watch. He had a 4 year career at Ohio State, and he surpassed 1000 rushing yards in 3 of them. His most memorable college stat may be that he averaged 6 yards per carry throughout his career. He was also the first person in history to win the Heisman twice. He won the award, given to the nation’s best player, in 1974 and 1975. He is still one of the only people in history to accomplish that feat.
Following his collegiate career, he was drafted in the 1st round by the Cincinnati Bengals. He couldn’t find the same success in the NFL. In his best season, he only got around 600 rushing yards. This is not to discredit his college career though. Archie Griffin has gone down as one of the best collegiate athletes of all time.
